NO "Boo @ the Barn" and Medical Update...

Hey you guys!  I know it has been a while since I have sent out an ENews from the studio, but things have been a little busy around here.  As you know back in April my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and he has had two very successful surgeries to repair damage to his C5, healed up from that and started his treatment for the Myeloma.  He has done very well during this treatment phase and the myeloma has responded well.   He was originally scheduled to do treatments for 8 rounds and that would put us in the beginning of December.  However, it has responded so well that we are now at the place of preparing for his Bone Marrow Transplant.  His Myeloma on a recent bone marrow biopsy showed less than 1% myeloma in his body and his blood showed 0! We are super thrilled with that!  The bone marrow transplant is to get him to remission and to keep him there longer.  It is life giving!  We are praying for full remission and for his disease to continue to be responsive and kept at bay.  God has been so very present throughout this entire journey and we want others to know of His goodness and grace through our story.  

My husband has had all of his workup testing and we are actually just waiting on our schedule to start the transplant process.  What that will entail is us relocating for a period of time closer to Medical City Dallas.  As we are too far out should he need care right away.   His bone marrow transplant is an Auto meaning he will donate to himself.  How that is done is they have the disease way under control with treatment and when we begin he will be given some shots to encourage his baby stem cells in his blood to grow.  This will be given for four days.  Then on day five they will start harvesting and freezing his baby stem cells.  These are baby blood cells that don't know what they want to be yet.  (Like white blood cells, red blood cells or platelets)  These are all cancer free!  They will harvest anywhere from 3 - 5 days (each session is about 5 hours)  Then once they get enough stem cells for this transplant and to save some for years down the road he will be admitted to the hospital.   Once admitted they will give him two days of high powered chemo and then a day of rest.  on the fourth day in the hospital they will give him his stem cells back.  This is done like a blood transfusion we have been told.  This is considered his NEW BIRTHDAY! and celebrated that day!  Then the process of watching and waiting for those to graft into his bone marrow begin.  He will feel bad during day 4 -10 or so and then start to feel better and be on the climb back to health.  After day 10 those stem cells will start making the new healthy white blood cells, red blood cells and lastly the platelets.  He will be in the hospital for about 3 weeks and then we will stay closer to the hospital for 1-3 months.  Just depends on progress and when we are released to go home from our transplant Dr.  

It is not anything we ever expected to experience or go through, but we are so grateful for the opportunity for healing.  Though the journey might not be easy, it will be worth it!  Please join us in praying that side effects will be minimal, doable. We are praying for complete healing and ultimately God's will in the journey.

I will update here from time to time, but not that often during the process.  As it is going to be a busy time and I will not be in my office during this time.

I share all of this so that you know what is happening and why the studio has not really been having any events and why I have only done a few sessions during this time.  As we are heading into Halloween this next week and one of the events we always host is "Boo @ the Barn"  but... this year there will be NO BOO!  So sorry, but I know you guys totally understand.  This is always such a fun fun night, but I plan on having it again in 2020!

Also, as we end October and head into the next few months the studio will be CLOSED! just for a period of time.  I will not be able to do any sessions, orders, etc. while we are away.   I hope to be able to reopen the studio sometime in the Spring of 2020.  I will keep you posted through our facebook page, blog and here in the E-News for when I reopen the studio.

I plan on having a fun "GRAND RE-OPENING" event.  I already have some ideas and am working on putting together a fun event to kick off getting back to work.  I LOVE what I do and I love being apart of your lives and look forward to the time that my husband and I can be back in the studio.

Have you heard the news?!! SANTA is coming...{North Texas Children Photographer}

Hi SP Friends...

Have you heard the NEWS?!!! SANTA  is coming to the studio on Saturday December 7, 2013.  We are so excited and can't wait to capture all the excitment as children come and get to spend quality time with SANTA.  It's the perfect time to get those adorable Christmas photos and to allow your child time to visit with SANTA and share their holiday wish list as well as give me a big ole' hug.  They love it.  It's one of my favorite sessions each year; it's just magical to see the excitement and pure joy in the eyes of a child.  Priceless for sure!

It super easy to book your session; simply call the studio at 972.877.4778 or email us at deanna@specialtyphotography.biz.  The session fee is just $39 and will include your session and the hosting of your online gallery.  This year you will receive your online gallery within days of your session.  You will have 7 days to view your gallery, select your favorites and complete your order.    Your gallery will have 10 - 15 images for you to preview and select from.

One of the questions that I get often is do I have to do a session fee per child?  The answer is no.  You can actually do one session fee for your children, just know that the images and time with SANTA will be shared by your children.  If you want more photos of each child, then you can actually book them each a session.  It's truly up to what works best for you and your family.    **Please note:  the combining of children in a session is limited to each individual family.

Teddy Bears & Toys for Christmas {North Texas Photographer}

Hi SP Friends...

It's that time of year when we are gearing up for the Fall & Christmas Season, and this year we wanted to include a little GIVING BACK into the mix of it all.    If you have a session scheduled between Now and December 15, 2013 (or you will be scheduling one)  you are welcome to participate in our Teddy Bear & Toy drive for Cook Children's Hospital.   To get involved all you have to do is bring a new Teddy Bear or unwrapped toy with you to your view & order appointment here at the studio to donate it.  You will in turn receive one of our 2014 Portrait Calendars; in digital format.  You can share your calendar on social media, email to friends & family and even print them for New Year gifts to your closest friends & family.    It's just our GIFT to YOU for being so awesome and joining us in the effort to gather lots of Teddy Bears & Toys to drop off to the hosiptal the week prior to Christmas.    It is just a great way that we can bring SMILES to the faces of children and warm a parents heart during a difficult time of facing a child's illness.

5th Annual "Boo @ the Barn" {North Texas Children Photographer}

Hi SP Friends...

This week I will be sharing some of our exciting FALL events that we have coming up here at Specialty Photography.  I LOVE Fall!  Love all the Holiday's, family times and of course all the awesome photo's that are taken this time of year.  Plus... the air get's cooler & the colors are always so breathtaking {nothing to do with my specials, but hey it's just some reasons I love FALL lol!}

Today I am thrilled to share with you about our 5th Annual "Boo @ the Barn" (truly can not believe we will be celebrating 5 years in business this coming January - whoohoo)  Our "Boo @ the Barn" has always been a way for us as a studio to give back to our community by having a fun night that is FREE to the community & always provides help to organizations that ultimately help those in need.   Last year we collected TEDDY BEARS that went to the Venus Fire Department as well as Cook Children's Hospital.  I had a blast delivering all those awesome bears to both places.  This year we have decided to do the same thing only this year we are going to be collecting Teddy Bears and/or New unwrapped toys.  When we dropped off the Teddy Bears last year to Cook Children's Hospital we were so blessed to see all the donations coming in for those families who had to spend Christmas in the Hospital; what a special gift that all those around brought Christmas to them.   How could we NOT be involved in that opportunity again.  It absolutely just touched my heart so much.  It seems like such a small thing to give a Teddy Bear or a New unwrapped toy, but oh the JOY it brings to a family and a child on Christmas Morning when they are away from home and all things that are normal to them and they are fighting an illness that many times seems bigger than life itself.

So, JOIN US at our 5th Annual "Boo @ the Barn" and bring with you a Teddy Bear and/or a New Unwrapped Toy to be given to Cook Children's Hospital just in time for Christmas 2013.  All who attend will receive a FREE 5x7 digital print of your little trick or treater; a little goodie bag & a $50 gift card to the studio that you can use towards your next photo session or print purchase at the studio.  This event is first come, first serve so you don't even have to make an appointment, simply dress up your little one and head on over.

Tea Parties & TeePee's {Venus, Texas Child Photographer}

Happy Monday SP Friends...

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend filled with many memories!  My family & I had a great time relaxing hanging out with friends and family, eating great food and of course fun with fireworks.  Oh the perks of living in the country lol!

Today I want to share with you our next Limited Edition Session that is coming up in September.  Our "Tea Parties & TeePee's" LE Session is going to be a day filled with dress up and adventure.  This is sure to produce lots of smiles and timeless art of your little one.   Lot’s of creativity and exploration.  {props include: a tee pee; old vintage quilts, crates, tea set, teddy bears, pearls just to name a few}


How to dress your little adventurer:

Boys: Denim overalls or jeans and solid color button up shirt. How about adding a cute hat and going without shoes (weather permitting)
Girls: a vintage cream color dress with small flower print, or solid color vintage dress. Skirts and shirts would work great too. How about adding a cute little purse and gloves.

2013 Limited Edition Sessions for Specialty Photography|Venus,Texas Photographer

Hi Friends,

Limited Edition Sessions are themed mini sessions that we host here at the studio.  Each session is 20  minutes and will provide you with 10 – 15 images to proof at your view and order session.  Approx. 7 days after your session you will return to the studio for your view and order session.  This is where you will preview your images and select your favorite images and purchase your package and/or prints of choice.  *There is no minimum purchase requirement on LE sessions and you will enjoy a lower session and package fee’s.   LE sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to capture your growing child on a regular basis throughout their childhood years.

Special Note:  Lt. Edition session are just that Limited in availability, so please book early for the sessions that you are interested in, when they are full they are full.  Lt. Edition Sessions start at 10am and run through 6pm on their scheduled date, however, you do have to pre-book your session time to attend.

Boo @ the Barn 2012 {North Texas Children Photographer}

Hi Friends!

Wednesday night {Halloween night} we had our 4th annual Boo @ the Barn event.  This is fun event that our studio host each year as a way to reach out to the community and to give back to the community through some sort of fund raising.  This year we decided to collect Teddy Bears {see original post on this story by clicking here}  to donate to the Venus Fire Department and to Cook Children's Hospital.    We will be delivering these this next week to the Venus Fire Department.  We are still collecting Teddy Bears throughout the Holiday Season in hopes to deliver several to Cooks Children's Hospital in time for Christmas.    If you want to contribute a Teddy Bear this holiday season just give us a call at 972.877.4778 or email us at deanna@specialtyphotography.biz and we will make sure your Teddy Bear arrives safely to a loving child who is ready to share the love.

Santa Claus is coming to....SP {North Texas Children Photographer}

Hi Friends...

 It's that time of year to start thinking and preparing for the Holiday Season and well one of the biggest and best highlights for all children is their visit with Santa Claus!  Here at Specialty Photography we want to make this a fun and rememorable experience for each one that comes to visit with Jolly Ole' St. Nick here at the studio.  Each session is 30 minutes long and we are encouraging each participant to bring along two outfits for the session.   One Christmas PJ outfit and one Christmas outfit; your session will include a fun interactive reading of the Night Before Christmas (in their PJ's) complete with Christmas Cookies and Milk for Santa and, the other outfit will be used when they get to sit upon Santa's knee and share with him all their wishes for Christmas.   How fun is that?!!  and.... the best part is that there are NO LONG LINES, your session is personal and completely YOUR session.  You will LOVE your images and they will indeed be a treasured gift to have as a remembrance of Christmas 2012.

4th Annual Boo @ the Barn {North Texas Child Photographer}

It's time for our Annual Boo @ the Barn and I hope you will mark the calendar and plan on attending this fun studio event.  This year we will be collecting NEW Teddy Bears to donate to the Venus Fire Department and to Cook Children's Hospital.  No matter where your teddy bear ends up it will be safely delivered to the hands of a scared and often times sick child.  These bears can bring comfort, smiles and each bear will be a fluffy friend that a child can hug.  I know first hand how awesome a gift that is... you see when our Sarah was about 6 years old she had a seizure (first and only that she has ever had... praise the Lord) and it was a very scary time.   When she came to the paramedics were in our living room working on her, so of course she was startled and very scared.  I remember the paramedic giving her a little stuffed bear and she just clung to it.  She held that bear through out the ambulance ride to Children's Hospital, throughout all the procedures and testing in the ER.  In fact, we still have that bear today tucked away safely in a box with all of her childhood keepsakes.  Even though that bear was just a little thing, it made such a huge impact on a scared little girl and on this momma's heart.  I loved that she had something special to cling to that gave her comfort during that scary event in her life.  So, I am super excited to see how many loving little Teddy Bears we can collect throughout our Boo @ the Barn event this year. 

All you need to do to participate in this year's event is bring your little Trick or Treater all dressed up in their costume along with a New Teddy Bear.  We will have an awesome set designed specifically for this event and will take each child's portrait.  You will receive a Complimentary Digital Image along with a print release with your donation of a Teddy Bear.  {value $40}   We will also have refreshments, treat bags and of course we will be giving out Gift Card's to SP.   So help us pass the word, bring your friends & make sure you join us on October 31, 2012 for this awesome event.  You just can't miss it!!
